Being Transparent ~ Let Them See Who You Really Are!

Today as I met with my networking group, we were discussing the character attributes that we value and hope our clients can clearly see.  I wrote that one of my character attributes is transparency.  Allowing others to see who you really are is important.

Let me dive into this a bit deeper.  We live in a society where we tend to create this persona of who we are as professionals.  We have our avatar head shots, our blogging platform, our social media pages and our community involvement.  Often, people can create an opinion about us without them really "knowing" us on a personal level.

Of course we all know that with the advent of social media, some folks take the transparency way too far and we then know way too much information about some of these people!  We certainly don't need to have everyone know every little detail of our lives.  What I ate for breakfast really has no significance on who I am as a person and no one really cares right?

Being transparent for me means allowing others to see me as a real person who makes mistakes, owns up to my mistakes and is consistently in the trenches with them doing the best that I can each and every day. Trying to create an illusion of always being perfect does not create a transparency that people can relate with.  Allowing others to see that yes, life is tough, I mess up and I keep my head up and keep plugging away opens doors for great and real relationships.

I would like to think that I am Super Woman but I am not her!  I would rather be known as a smart business woman who is down to earth and approachable.  So let them see you in a real light!  Allow other people to know your heart!

For me personally, being transparent has blessed me with great clients who often become dear friends. Fellow agents who I can trust and a group of diverse professionals that know me on the inside rather than just superficially.  It really is a great approach!
