Outdoor Room ~ Do It Right!

Posted by Paula McDonald
The trend of outdoor rooms appears to be here to stay!  In our area north of Houston, we have been watching this trend unfold for sometime now.  While some of these rooms don't hit the mark with some less-than great DYI results, there are some that are simply stunning! The home that I am featuring in this post definitely did it right!  The outdoor structure is perfect in scale and size, has great extra finishing touches such as the vaulted, beaded ceiling and the custom drapes. This extra room can now be fully used for a variety of entertaining or personal uses. The outdoor grill area was well-planned in that is is not located under the main outdoor room but rather just off to the side yet they thought through it enough to include a well-done (pun intended) glass cover! Not only does it look great but allows for the grill master to cook in any kind of weather. Another lovely feature is the mosaic-glass fire pit alongside the waterfall feature!  This creates the perfect backdrop of visual appeal as well as offering the soothing sound of running water.  Truly a lovely space to escape to! To top it all off, this home enclosed their covered patio with a Nano-glass wall of folding doors!  Keep it closed during inclement weather and fling them open to enjoy both the covered patio and the outdoor room together!  Now that is an addition that will be used by any homeowner. If you are wanting to create a space like this in your backyard there are a few important tips to follow:1.  If you live in a neighborhood with an HOA, make sure you follow the proper protocol for submitting your plans prior to beginning construction.2.  Unless you are really competent with this scale of construction, seek out a qualified and well-referred contractor who is licensed and bonded!3.  Consider having a designer assist you with the details such a size of the project and finishing details.4.  Do it right!  A poorly constructed outdoor room can be costly and most likely won't yield top dollar     during a re-sale.5.  Decide on a budget and then stay in that budget!  6.  Discuss your addition with a trusted real estate agent prior to taking on the project.  Make sure that     the money you are putting in will be able to truly increase the market value for your area. In this instance, these outdoor spaces have been done correctly!  They will most likely increase the value of this home!  If you are going to do an outdoor room, make sure you take the time to do it right!      "Have you fully lived today?"
