Dancing With the Scars

Dancing With the ScarsI really do love the show Dancing With the Stars.  I enjoy the interweaving in of the personal stories and challenges of the various dancers.  The show often transforms many of the contestants as they continue on week to week. I had the privilege of seeing Julianne and Derek Hough the other night at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion here in The Woodlands in their show, MOVE Live on Tour.  What a fantastic, toe-tapping shoe it was!  Great choreography, costumes, music and of course the dancing! After reflecting on this past season with the star Sergeant Noah Galloway who sustained a life-changing injury losing his left arm and left leg while on a 2nd tour in Iraq.  This incident occurred on December 19, 2005 resulting in numerous surgeries, depression and a long recovery.  He made a decision one night as he was reflecting on his situation and decided right then and there to make some positive changes in his life. Not only did he recover, he became a personal trainer and has achieved the goal of getting his body and mind to be as fit as possible!  He is also traveling around as a motivational speaker with his main message being, "No excuses!".  I am sure that his message is extremely powerful. So as I watched the live performances of Julianne and Derek last night, I couldn't help but to reflect on those individuals like Noah who continue to overcome some of the most amazing challenges in life.  To me, those who can overcome both outward and inward challenges are the true heroes in life.  Perhaps you haven't lost a limb but maybe you have overcome overwhelming life circumstances that made you stronger and changed your life perspective! We all have scars whether invisible or visible.  How you Dance With Your Scars does make a difference in your life and that of those you encounter on a daily basis.  No matter what is going on in your life this very moment, take time to reflect and learn to dance with your scars! Have You Fully Lived Today?      "Have you fully lived today?"
