TEXAS Has a New State Bird!  Take Precautions Friends!OK, OK, don't freak out, no we are not getting a new state bird here in Texas however, with the immense amount of rain that we have received, these darn mosquitoes are taking over!  I was inspired to write this post after reading  Noah Seidenberg post on mosquito's.  Yes, they are annoying but more importantly they can cause serious health issues! As much as we joke about these pesky creatures becoming our state bird, we all really do need to take them seriously.  They pose numerous health risks such as encephalitis, West Nile and many other dreaded illnesses.  Aside from staying inside completely, there are some things you can do to avoid getting bitten. Clean up any areas of standing water immediately.  This is where they breed!Try and avoid being outside during the early mornings and at dusk.  Most of the mosquitoes are extremely active during those times. If you do need to be outside, use a mosquito spray.  I advocate only using all-natural sprays.  Check out my post on making your own homemade bug spray. Wear light colored clothing and cover up the bare areas when possible.Avoid wearing fragrances as this attracts the bugs! Plant mosquito repelling plants such as Cintronella.Tiki torches, fire pits and cintronella candles can also help detract these critters. Yes, mosquitoes are a pain but they are here to stay!  Taking a few steps as mentioned above can really help you avoid the irritation of the bite!  Stay safe everyone and don't let the bed bugs bite! Please check out my post on Making Your Own All-Natural Mosquito Spray!      "Have you fully lived today?"
