Texas Gulf Coast Tropical Storm Preparations

Texas Gulf Coast Tropical Storm Preparations  The big news coming out this weekend concerns the Texas Gulf Coast and being prepared for what could be our first official tropical disturbance.  If you followed the news yesterday and this morning, you no doubt are hearing about this area in the Gulf that is developing guickly.  No matter what the outcome is, NOW is the time to begin preparing if this does form and brings with it a great deal of rain to our already heavily saturated area. We are officially now into Hurricane season so preparing is always a good thing.  Now that we see this storm forming in the Gulf, today is a good day to focus on having the supplies that you may need.  Don't wait.  If it doesn't happen then you are prepared for the next one. Have plenty of drinking water.  Bottled, fill up tubs, etc. Batten down the hatches.  Put away anything outside that could be a projectile with high winds. Make sure you have plenty of candles and matches. A good weather radio with extra batteries is nice to have. Have a plan.  If water rises quickly, know what you need to do in your area. Know where the disaster areas are for your area.  Schools, churches, etc. Make sure your medication prescriptions are filled. Have car gas tanks full. Get some cash to have on hand. Have a stockpile of non-perishable foods. Prepare for your pets by having plenty of pet food, supplies and a plan for them in case of flooding. Secure valuables. Un-plug computers, TV's and other large electronics in case of power surges or outages. Talk to your neighbors and find out if anyone is out of town and might need to check on their home for them. If you have electronic gates, make sure you know how to open them if the power is out. The most important thing is being prepared AHEAD of a storm.  The news outlets in the Houston area are telling us that TODAY is our day for preparation.  Make time to do what you need to do! Be safe everyone!      "Have you fully lived today?"
