Texas Handgun Open Carry Bill Approved ~ 2015 That's right folks, you can now carry your licensed handguns right there on your hip in plain sight! The former concealed handgun law dated back to the Civil War era. Of course with all gun laws, this one is also "under the gun" from various groups. Texas has always been known to have a large population of gun enthusiasts. There are still many regulations that should be noted: You must still be licensed to carry a handgun. Must be 21 years or older. Must pass a background check. Receive classroom and shooting range instruction. Handgun must be in a visible holster. If you are going to carry, make sure that you know the laws, go through the proper channels and be a responsible gun owner. Most of the people that I know that carry handguns are extremely knowledgeable and trained.
