Hydration for the Texas Heat

Hydration for the Texas HeatThe Texas heat in the summer can be brutal and it can be dangerous!  Waiting until you are thirsty is not advised.  Staying hydrated throughout the day is your best bet during this intense heat. Here are some hydration tips:Upon awakening each day, begin drinking water.  Add some fresh lemon or mint to add some variety and extra nutrients. Did you know that it is recommended that you drink half of your body weight in ounces of water?  I know that I am not drinking nearly enough! Try and wear a hat.  Having something covering your head can really reduce the heat exchange in your body. Stay in the shade when having to be outside for long periods of time. Wear light colored clothing. Keep lots of water with you at all times.Sipping water throughout the day is the best way to insure constant hydration. Some medications can really affect you differently in the heat.  Make sure you know how you are affected and take measures to handle the heat. It is HOT out there so be SAFE!  If you have a pool like my pup Wally above, you are in luck!  Wouldn't it be nice just to stay in that all day?      "Have you fully lived today?" Paula L.
