Getting Hit from Behind ~ Lessons to be Learned

Getting Hit from Behind ~ Lessons to be LearnedIt is never, ever fun being involved in a car wreck of any kind.  Yesterday was one of those seemingly normal days.  My day however, turned out to be far from normal. Anyone who lives in our area knows that traffic can be a challenge.  We have a lot of construction and roadway improvements going on.  This alone can cause confusion and adds to the high number of wrecks that we see here daily. As I am driving on one of main roadways yesterday, as I approach a stoplight I notice the young lady behind me has her head down in what appears to be in "texting" mode.  I remember thinking how I wished she would put that thing up and pay attention to the road.  As the light turned green and we proceeded down the road, the traffic in front of me inexplicably just STOPPED! Thankfully I was paying attention but remembered the young lady not paying attention behind me.  I glanced in the rear view mirror to see the impending accident occurring.  The young lady was still not paying attention and did not see my brake lights as she slammed full-force into my vehicle. I remember feeling my teeth rattle and thought that the impact was much greater than I had anticipated! Once we pulled over and I had my wits about me, I jumped out to see the damage and to see if the young lady behind me was alright.  She was in a much smaller vehicle than mine. My initial reaction to her was that of my MOM mode. "You MUST put your phone down when you are driving!"  We all know the horrific accidents that have occured because of driver distractions.  Hopefully this accident will give her time to reflect and recognize how lucky she is. Distracted driving is such an important topic.  We have been given a privilege and a responsibility each and every time we get behind the wheel.  PLEASE everyone, pay attention to the job at hand when behind the wheel.  Calls, texts, eating, etc. CAN WAIT! BE SAFE WHEN DRIVING!  PAY FULL ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES!      "Have you fully lived today?"
