Best and Worst States for Job Seekers-TX has More than Any Other State

June 2nd, 2011

According to the April 2011 Bureau of Labor Statistics' breakdown, some states have fared better than others.  Among them were North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Texas.  While New Hampshire currently ranks #1 for income, Texas has the claim to the most jobs created. In fact, over a quarter million jobs were added in the last year. Texas' success is also attributed to a very low unemployment rate (8% currently) and being home to more fortune 500 companies than any other state.

At the bottom of the list were Nevada, California, Rhode Island, Florida and Mississippi. Nevada tops the list with unemployment at 10%.  However, that number is down 5% year to year.  While California has added nearly 150,000 jobs in the last year (the 2nd highest in the country), it still claims the second highest unemployment rate currently at 11.9%.  Florida's job distress is largely attributed to a suffering housing market.
