Lynne Aldrich, environmental services manager of The Woodlands Township, has been awarded the 2010 Linda B. Smith Memorial Award by the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR). The award honors an individual or business, non-profit organization or government agency demonstrating a commitment to environmental leadership, above and beyond the scope of the business or mission of the agency.
“I am very honored to receive this award,” said Ms. Aldrich. “I met Linda Smith when I first started in this job and admired her very much. This award is really a recognition of my team and an organization that encouraged creativity in solving issues as we identified them.”
Ms. Aldrich has been instrumental in developing, promoting and expanding a number of environmental programs for The Woodlands Township, including Woodlands Landscaping Solutions, Household Hazardous Waste, mosquito abatement, Walk to School, Adopt-A-Path, the community garden, school recycling and the Earth Day Festival.
“Had Lynne Aldrich just done what she was hired to do, there are many environmental initiatives that The Woodlands residents take for granted that might have never happened,” said Maia Corbitt, executive director of STAR. STAR’s mission is to promote and enhance recycling and diversion activities in the State of Texas through communication and the exchange of information.
