According to the Jan. 16 edition of Pollstar magazine, the concert industry’s leading trade publication, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion ranked fifth in its listing of the top 100 amphitheaters in the world based on the number of tickets sold in 2011. The Pavilion’s ticket sales totaled 277,099 for shows played between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011.
“The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion consistently ranks in the top five amphitheaters for total tickets sold each year. We are fortunate to be located in a strong market and have as our partner, Live Nation, the No. 1 concert promoter in the world,” said Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion. “The venue itself, its location and our staff also contribute to our success.”
The Pavilion had eight sold-out concerts in 2011 including Arcade Fire (May 4), Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band (May 5), Stevie Nicks (Aug. 13), 94.5 The Buzz/Bud Light Weenie Roast (Aug. 28), Kid Rock with Sheryl Crow (Sept. 3), Maroon 5 and Train (Sept. 24), Journey with Foreigner and Night Ranger (Sept. 25), and Buzzfest XXVII (Oct. 22).
According to Pollstar magazine, 2012 concert business is looking to be a record-breaking year with a stellar array of talent set to hit the road. The Pavilion is gearing up for the new season and has announced two concerts including The Black Keys April 24 and Il Divo June 21. Stay tuned for more announcements of upcoming concerts and events.
