THE WOODLANDS, TX (May 1, 2015) – The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council will announce the second phase of its Woodlands Waterway Art Bench Project on May 4, 2015 at 5:00 – 5:30 pm at Town Green Park in The Woodlands.

Praising the generosity of the underwriters, Art Bench Committee Chair Amy Lecocq said “We are very fortunate to have six community leaders who recognize the value of public art by participating in this unique project.” Those underwriters are: Peggy and Mitch Hausman; Village Medical Center; Dr. Todd and Gayle Kuoni; Dr. David and Brenda Gottlieb; Dr. Peter and Megan Shedden; and Peggy and Ray Wilcox. “We are grateful to each of them for stepping forward and anticipate an exciting project ahead,” said Lecocq.

A Call to Artists has been sent out seeking designs for six new benches, which will be installed in early March 2016. Locations and Underwriters have been selected for these new benches. Phase 2 locations stretch between Waterway Square and Town Green Park. Artists may apply online at WoodlandsWaterwayArtsCouncil.org until August 31, 2015. There is no application fee and each finalist will receive $8,300 to design, construct and deliver his/her bench. Semi-finalists (18) will each receive $300 to refine their submitted designs. All artists are encouraged to apply.

Phase 1 benches were installed to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of The Woodlands in October 2014 and artists hailed from Spain, Austria, California, Kansas and Texas (4). Phase 1 underwriters were: Gordy and Michelle Bunch, Dr. Robert and Renee Neville, Benchmark Hospitality International, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, The Woodlands Development Co/The Howard Hughes Corp., Rob and Cindy Hardin and Woodforest National Bank.
