Revamping Freddie and Fannie

Here is an article fromt the Wall Street Journal concerning the White Houses' proposal to reduce the government's role in financing housing.  Could this be the end of Fannie and Freedie?  There are three interesting options being considered.  What is best for the real estate industry?

White House Plans to Revamp Mortgage Market

More than two years after the government seized Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Obama administration will recommend phasing out the housing-finance giants and gradually reducing the government's footprint in the mortgage market, according to people familiar with the matter.
