Really Harris County? You decide to rename one of the busiest roads in the city apparently just for fun?
I’m about 4 months late to this news, but Harris County decided to rename FM 1960 to Cypress Creek Parkway between Aldine Westfield to the east and Highway 249 to the West.
According a segment on ABC News back in July, the name change is just a designation.
That means the signs will change between FM 249 and Aldine Westfield, but the name FM 1960 will still get mail delivered to the right place.
This part of the article cracks me up:
For two years, the Northwest Houston Chamber of Commerce held meetings about the name change, and placed four ads, ironically, in the “1960 Sun” newspaper. They say just 75 people responded to a public poll about the renaming, and ultimately, 16 people signed a petition to make the change.
So not only did they spend 2 years discussing this change, but they at least partially based their decision on a petition with 16 signatures??? This stretch of 1960, er Cypress Creek Parkway, has tens of thousands of cars drive on it everyday and 16 signatures was the tipping point?
I just don’t get it. Not only did they spend the time and resources over 2 years to research and discuss the possibility of this change, but then they actually go through with the change and spend the time and money to change all of the street signs.
It just seems like our county tax dollars could be better spent in better ways.
