Cy-Fair ISD announced a few school boundary changes which will go into effect for the 2011- 2012 school year.  Two significant changes are:

• Students that attend Sampson Elementary in Coles Crossing will now go to Spillane Middle School instead of Goodson Middle School
• Children who live in The Park At Arbordale gated community will now go to Sampson Elementary instead of Farney Elementary

I think the biggest winners here are The Park At Arbordale and Beazer Homes, the exclusive home builder at The Park at Arbordale.

One of the main reasons houses in Cole’s Crossing sell as good as they do is Sampson Elementary School.  Sampson has consistently been a top-performing “exemplary” rated school since it opened about 10 years ago.  Up until this point, only children living in Coles Crossing were zoned to go to Sampson.

Farney is also an exemplary and I’m sure a great school.  The student / teacher ratio is lower at Farney (17.4 students per teacher) than it is at Sampson (19 students / teacher).  However, I have had clients express their concern with the fact that 24% of Farney students are considered “economically disadvantaged” (compared to < 1% for Sampson), and the neighborhood it is in, Cypress Point, are lower end houses with higher crime rates than Coles Crossing.

Arbordale students going to Sampson makes sense from a logistical standpoint.  The walk to Sampson from the back of Arbordale is about a half of mile using the Coles Crossing walking paths.  Moreover, those paths were installed and maintained by MUD District #365 which is a MUD district for both Coles Crossing and The Park At Arbordale meaning that Arbordale residents officially have access to those paths.
