Brisk sales in Bridgeland this year have propelled the community onto the list of the nation’s top 10 master-planned communities.

In a ranking compiled mid-year by Metrostudy and based on annual housing starts, Bridgeland has moved to No. 8 on the list, up from last year’s 12^th-place spot. Builders have started 396 homes in Bridgeland through June of this year, an increase of 40.9 percent over the previous 12 months.

Houston as a whole is well-represented on the full list, with seven master-planned communities ranked among the top 20 developments in the nation. Bridgeland’s sister community of The Woodlands is the top-ranked Houston-area development, listed at No. 2 with 1,109 housing starts.

The top master-planned communities tend to include “a wide selection of new housing product, multiple homebuilders, close proximity to employment centers and services, open space, diverse walk-able amenities, town center and themed lifestyles,” wrote Metrostudy’s Tom Hayden.
