Before a realtor can get your home ready to "market," the seller usually has a lot of homework. Here is a perfect example. Get rid of everything or all the clutter sitting everywhere! If you can't see the countertops or top of the appliances, neither can a potential buyer. Walking into a kitchen like this is a big turn off to the typical buyer. It makes the room look even smaller and they, many times can't "imagine" how it looks, once everything is gone. This kind of cluttered room/house is not ready for photos! Sometimes it has been in this shape so long, the seller cannot even see how it looks to others.
Also, don't go and stuff all the clutter and junk into a closet.. When they open a closet door, a toolbox or 4 pillows falling in their face is not a way to get their attention. How about the caulk around the tub and shower areas? If it's green or the color of coffee, you've got another big job to get done before your house hits the market. When these things are done, the house will market and show well and be sold in a short time.
Have you ever noticed how clean, and sparsely furnished model homes are? There's a reason for that. That's why they sell.
