Program Overview

Houston Homebuyer Assistance Program is a program that provides direct financial assistance to offset portions of the down payment, closing costs, pre-paid items and principal required for home purchase. The property must be located in the taxing jurisdiction of the city of Houston.

Who is eligible for this program?

The applicant must demonstrate the ability to obtain a mortgage loan, and must invest at least $500 into the home buying transaction. Funds may be used to offset portions of the down payment, closing costs, pre-paid items and principal required for home purchase.

Is this program for first time buyers only? No

Property Eligibility Requirements

The sales price cannot exceed $ 200160.
Allowable property types: Single-family property (detached and attached 1-4 units), condominium unit/townhouse, modular home/manufactured home, cooperative unit.

Benefit Details

The borrower must live in the home for ten years for assistance to be forgiven. Amount of assistance is $19,500.
