Mortgage lenders are cutting closing costs and offering other promotional deals to entice prospective homebuyers to take action now. The record low interest rates don't seem to be enough for reluctant buyers in today's market. Lenders are super picky about qualifications, but they need to grant strong mortgages to generate needed revenue.
To stimulate activity, many banks and other lenders are introducing discounts and promotions to motivate potential homebuyers. The combination of record low interest rates coupled with the newly offered discounts make a powerful case for climbing off the fence and buying a home now.
A number of lenders are waiving fees and finding new ways to cut loan prices for would-be home buyers and refinancers. One lender is waiving some closing fees for refinancers, which can save $3,300 on average, according to the lender. A couple of the nation's largest banks are discounting fees by as much as 0.75 percentage points.
