Dentils - Features & Finishes in a Home

November 29th, 2009

Dentils are a row of evenly sized blocks, separated by even spaces and are found in exterior architecture, interior millwork and moldings, and frequently on furniture.

It is pronounced “dental” but spelled dentil. Colonial lore is the name was derived from the fact this molding resembles a row of teeth, which is an easy way to remember it …but the truth is this detail dates back to early Greek and Roman architecture. Dentils are frequently found in Houston in interior moldings, millwork and often provide decorative trim in carved fireplace mantels.

In this photo several patterns are used, and like dentils, each has a name. From top to bottom: “Bead and Reel” is the topmost that resembles a string of beads; then, “Egg and Dart”; then “Leaf and Dart” (followed by another “Bead and Reel”) and then the easily recognizable dentils followed by the same patterns repeating again.

Multi-piece or “stacked” moldings (like the photo) are a very desirable feature to many buyers, so if your home has them, you want to be sure that it is appropriately highlighted in the property's marketing materials. In a SMARTePLAN the multi-piece moldings are described in detail in the amenities text (room-by-room text description of each room) Both the floor plan w/embedded photos and the amenities text are available online as part of the MLS listing 24/7 for the life of the listing.

======
SMARTePLANS are detailed floor plans that have photos embedded inside that launch with a mouse click .... each photo arrow is positioned in the plan where the photographer was standing --- so you can see where he was and what he was aiming at when he took the shot ... in relationship to the drawing. Beneath the photo is a description of that room. Once the photo launches you have a choice to link back to the floor plan and choose another photo, or read the amenities text for the WHOLE property (not just that particular room). All the files are inter-linked so you can seamlessly click around this property, viewing the photos and reading the descriptions. This is not a video ... you choose what you want to view ... or not.

You can view samples on my web page at www.smarteplans.com

[NOTE: SMARTePLANS are PDF files so they magnify to over 100%. When the file launches, click "View" on the top toolbar and make sure there is a checkmark next to the toolbar named "Select and Zoom". Every time you tap the plus key inside the circle the view screen enlarges (the minus key shrinks the magnification); and the magnifying glass with the plus sign in it marquee selects a specfic area of the drawings to be enlarged. Using the hand key and the scroll bars, its easy to move around inside the file, and then magnifying the features you want to see.]
