I wanted to share a little piece of Heaven with y’all. This is 4.83 acres of property on Galveston Bay. The owner of this property is an 85 year old lady, Ms Clara. She has been such a delight since I came to know her, and the stories she can tell. She has been a lifelong resident of Galveston Island (BOI….Born On the Island) She and her husband, who is now gone built their home here, raised their two boys, and had a wonderful life, living here on this very secluded road on the Bay. Ms Clara lost her home on September 13, 2008 to a late night visitor named Ike……She told me the story….Here is a capsulated version.
When hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast on September 13, 2008, Ms Clara and her little dog, Bitsy, decided as in times past, that this Hurricane visit would be the same as the others they had been through (and they had been through several) ‘Much ado about nothing’ 
They secured down the hatches and crawled into a big overstuffed chair, and waited for the wind and rain. Around 1:00 am, the winds started and the house began to shake, Ms Clara and Bitsy had been through this before, but this time things were different. Water began to come in through the windows and up under the doorway. Soon, within minutes, water was filling the small little home with water.
Ms Clara and Bitsy decided they should quickly move to the attic…..then the lights went out. In the dark they made their up to the attic safely, but the water just kept rising. At one point, Bitsy fell into the water that was now up into the attic hide away, Ms Clara grabbed her little wet body and put her in a basket up on top of an old dresser. Bitsy was so shaken up, she could not stop barking.
Ms Clara and Bitsy, both made it through another hurricane, but this time the old house did not. They are living in a new small home off the island, but Ms Clara never stops talking about her home and her memories on Sportsman Road.
