Unless you live in the forest somewhere, in which case you aren’t reading this blog, you are aware of what happened in our national elections. But, amidst all of that excitement, we had some closely contested races in League City which created a new look city council. Position 3, that had belonged to Mick Phalen for the last two terms will be changing hands as Heidi Thiess defeated him with a 55%/45% margin of victory. Todd Kinsey, in a much closer contest, defeated John Babcock and Jay Ewend to capture Position 4. Lastly, Position 5 was turned over from incumbent Phyllis Sanborn to Geri Bentley.

Possibly more notable for League City residents were the seven propositions that were on the table. All seven passed, including those aligning the city election date to November of every even-numbered year and amending the length and number of terms of service. And, as expected, the red light camera proposition passed, which would turn the lights out on these traffic light cameras, effective at the end of the 2014.
