As reported by the University of Texas Medical Branch on August 22, 2012, the medical facility has approved an $82 million expansion in League City that would be used to construct an additional 142,000 square feet of clinical space in Victory Lakes. Construction at the site could begin as early as February, 2013, pending approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board later this month. The Galveston County Daily News reported December 21, 2012 that not only is this facility set for groundbreaking (with the price tag having increased to $90 million), but an additional $8 million central plant will be built as well at this Victory Lakes sixty-two acre campus.
The roots of UTMB’s significant presence in League City began in the spring of 2010, when the UTMB Specialty Care Center opened its 110,000 square foot state-of-the-art center in Victory Lakes, continuing the growth of medical facilities in the north Galveston County area. If the new facility looks anything like the original, it will be a nice addition.
