Trendy discount grocer, Aldi, has announced plans to open a 17,000 square foot store in Kemah, 100 FM 518, across from Wal-Mart, later in 2013. Over the next two years, the Illinois-based company expects to open 30 stores in the Houston area. The new stores would create 400 jobs and represent more than $125 million in capital investment.
History: Since opening our first store in 1976, we have been committed to giving customers the highest quality food at the lowest prices possible. Today, there are over 1,000 ALDI stores in 31 states, from Kansas to the east coast. These stores carry about 1,400 regularly stocked items, from fresh produce to the best cuts of meat to everyday essentials like bread and peanut
butter – all at the low prices you’ve come to expect.
Customers can expect to find more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased items sold under ALDI exclusive brands for prices up to 50 percent less than traditional supermarkets. A model of efficiency, ALDI eliminates overhead costs by offering smart practices, such as a cart rental system through which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart’s return. Other cost-saving practices include a smaller store footprint, open carton displays and encouragement of customers to bring their own shopping bags.
