According to a report by Biz Journals, Houston and Austin continue to lead the nation in terms of regaining jobs lost during the recession.
The Business Journals’ On Numbers analysis of the most recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found Houston added 121,600 private-sector jobs between November 2007 and November 2012. That ranks the city No. 1 out of the nation’s 102 largest markets, followed by Austin with a gain of 45,800 jobs. Dallas-Fort Worth was No. 3 with 28,700 additional jobs.
When ranked by percent change, Texas cities continued to hold the top three spots. Austin rose to the top with five-year job growth of 7.49 percent, while Houston took the No. 2 spot with 5.45 percent. McAllen-Edinburg, Texas, was No. 3 with 5.2 percent growth.
Five-year change in private-sector employment is one of the 18 components used to determine the On Numbers Economic Index, which the Business Journals also released this week. Houston’s index score ranks it No. 3 among the 102 markets.
