Pollstar magazine, a concert industry trade publication, has ranked The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands No. 3 out of the top 50 amphitheaters in the world based on the number tickets sold in the first half of 2012.
The Pavilion sold 138,696 tickets for shows played between Jan. 1 and June 30. So far this season, four of the Pavilion’s shows have sold out: Buzzfest on April 21, Dave Matthews Band on May 18, Jimmy Buffett on June 2 and One Direction on June 24.
Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of the Pavilion, in a statement credited the strong local market, the Pavilion’s staff, the venue itself and its concert promoter partner, Live Nation, for helping drive the Pavilion’s success.
Some of the Pavilion’s previous rankings on the Pollstar list include No. 2 during the first nine months of 2010 and No. 1 during the first half of 2007.
