The Woodlands Township has increased patrols on the pathways and parks throughout all of the villages in The Woodlands.

“Public safety is the No. 1 priority of The Woodlands Township,” said Stephen P. Sumner Sr., Director of Law Enforcement for The Woodlands Township. “While many crime statistics are down year over year, some statistics are up, and we are addressing those head on, and this includes incidents on pathways.”

The Woodlands Township, working in conjunction with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, has placed law enforcement on bicycles to travel throughout The Woodlands’ pathways including parks. “We are placing additional law enforcement resources in key areas to address these issues,” said Captain Andrew Eason of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition, The Woodlands Township’s Park Rangers increased the number of hours of patrol on pathways to create more visibility throughout the parks and pathways of The Woodlands, both in Montgomery County and Harris County. Park Rangers travel along the pathway system throughout The Woodlands on small motorized vehicles.

The 2010 budget of The Woodlands Township is funding a total of 82 contract personnel to serve The Woodlands in District #6 via the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). This year, a new district, #6, was created within MCSO just to serve The Woodlands. It is staffed by a new dedicated Captain, Andrew Eason. Of these 82 authorized positions, 78 are currently filled and the MCSO is in the recruitment process for the remaining four individuals.
