Today's Houston Chronicle reports that a growing number of New Yorkers have been moving to Texas, with the largest spike in the Houston area. A New York-based think tank called The Center for an Urban Future, analyzed IRS Migration data to discover from 2005-2010 there was a 34% increase in the number of NY residents moving to Texas.
Top reasons they come to Houston:
1. It's a major metropolitan area
2. It has a relatively low cost of living
3. It has strong areas of academia and research (UH, Rice Univ, Med Center, etc)
4. It has a diverse immigrant community
Yay, Houston!
