While white is still a popular shade for home furnishings, gray may soon bypass it in popularity. From silvers to charcoals, more homeowners are electing to use shades of gray to serve as a neutral color.
In an interview recently with The Washington Post, Glidden Paints color brand manager Dee Schlotter states, "Gray plays well with other colors."
Gray is also pushing out the beige era and becoming the dominant neutral in home decorating. Most experts agree that beige became oversaturated in the home decorating industry over the last 10 years. Many home furnishing stores like Resoration Hardware, West Elm, and Ethan Allen to name a few, are using gray in their furnishings. Gray found a niche in kitchen cabinets and flooring as well.
London interior blogger Kate Watson-Smyth revealed to The Washington Post that "Gray gives life to everything in a room. Gray makes everything look more modern and fresh. Gray makes all your possessions pop out. It gives them presence. A good picture on a gray wall - it's amazing!"
