Despite how popular they are on TV and to homeowners, bathroom remodels have some of the smallest returns at resale, when compared to other home remodeling projects. 

A report recently released by the National Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry indicates which reno jobs have the largest and smallest returns when it comes time to sell. 

The report established that putting in a new roof or refinishing hardwood floors were great returns at resale. So which of the 20 projects that were surveyed had the smallest returns on investment?

Bathroom addition

• Average cost: $50,000
• Return on investment: 52%

Master suite addition

• Average cost: $112,500
• Return on investment: 53%

Closet renovation

• Average cost: $3,500
• Return on investment: 57%

Bathroom renovation

• Average cost: $26,000
• Return on investment: 58%

New wood-frame windows

• Average  cost: $26,000
• Return on investment: 58%
