Telfair Residents Protest Development Plans at SL Planning & Zoning

November 3rd, 2010

Telfair residents came out in droves to speak at the October City of Sugar Land Planning & Zoning meeting. Residents came to oppose approval of any future development plans within Telfair until school overcrowding can be addressed. Fort Bend ISD has failed to make any commitment to purchase the school property set aside in Telfair and has been given a deadline by the developer of January 15, 2011. If there is no commitment, the developer plans to seek alternative uses for the property. Not sure how the school district could manage a decision by that time with no bond referendums for funding any new school construction. In the meantime, Cornerstone elementary is already over capacity and one of the rezoning plans has 1/2 of Telfair being rezoned to First Colony Middle School. At any rate, the school situation for Telfair is in serious trouble and residents are extremely unhappy. This may well impact property values if some solution is not reached in the very near future.
