I kicked off my campaign for City Council March 12, 2011 along with our community petition drive to keep developers from building 1600 apartment units at the historical Imperial Sugar Mill site. Our grass roots movement worked to stop the initial proposal. The city announced they have denied the request and the devloper will have to resubmit. Meanwhile, the developer announced the builder for their apartment project in the Houston Chronicle today!
I have issued my full press release and I have stated, if elected to City Council, I will not vote for any additional residential construction unless the builder/developer can demonstrate adequate schools exist to serve the development. Our school situation in Sugar Land is in turmoil in many neighborhoods and the city needs to support the families/school children who live here.
