Houston REALTOR(R), Diana Miller Announces Run for Mayor of Sugar Land

October 23rd, 2017

Press Release, October 21, 2017

Diana Miller, Long-Time Community Advocate, Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Sugar Land

“This week, Sugar Land Mayor Joe Zimmerman voted to cut the Senior Holiday event, voted to cut the New Year’s Town Square event, voted to cut the July 4th Fireworks event, and almost allowed closure of the City’s only public pool. This is a man who is out of touch with the priorities of our community,” Diana Miller stated.

Diana Miller has been an active and vocal leader on Sugar Land development issues that are now negatively impacting the community. While Fort Bend ISD and Fort Bend County have both announced tax rate decreases due to increased property tax valuations, the City of Sugar Land seems to be unable to provide the services residents have come to expect. Sugar Land experienced a near 35% increase in property tax valuations over the past 5 years and Sugar Land remains in the top 20 of all Texas cities in sales tax revenue. “Something is very wrong if we cannot manage a City budget with this type of revenue growth without raising taxes and eliminating the community events that bring us together and bring joy to our families,” said Diana Miller.

Diana is the Broker/Owner of Fort Bend Homes located in Sugar Land since 2001. Diana has served on the Texas Association of REALTORS® Land Use Committee for the past seven years. Diana traveled to Austin and submitted testimony earlier this year supporting State Legislation on Property Tax Relief for homeowners and small business and supported State Legislation giving communities the right to vote prior to annexation, two issues which Mayor Zimmerman opposed. Diana also serves on the National Association of REALTORS® Land Use and Environment Committee which meets in Washington DC. As the largest trade association in the U.S., the National Association of REALTORS® advocates every day on behalf of the nation's 1 million REALTORS® and 75 million property owners. NAR is widely considered one of the most effective advocacy organizations in the country.

Diana is a 33 year resident of Sugar Land. She is married to Randy Miller. Their daughter and son both live in Sugar Land where they are raising their children who attend local public schools. Diana is a Child Advocates of Fort Bend CASA Volunteer, a volunteer with the award winning Fort Bend Education Foundation, a graduate of the 2016 Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, a volunteer with the City of Sugar Land, and Director of a local non-profit organization called The Great Grow, Inc. Randy and Diana Miller established one of the first Endowed Scholarships at UH Sugar Land. Diana holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Houston. With 25 years experience in commercial real estate, Diana worked as an Asset Manager with Houston’s largest commercial development companies and as an Asset Manager with the Federal Government’s Resolution Trust Corporation where she managed a real estate portfolio in excess of $1 billion.
