How did the Houston-area Real Estate market do in the first 6 months of the year?

July 20th, 2017

The Houston Association of Realtors just released sales numbers for June, so we now know how the overall market performed during the first half of this year vs. last year. The numbers in the table below show the overall sales volume for all property types for the whole Houston metro area. So you can see that the market grew every single month from 2016 to 2017. Now, this doesn't tell you the whole picture, since we also need to see how many transactions closed during those two periods, to get an idea of the relative pace of the market.

So, in terms of closings (Real Estate transactions that materialized, for all property types), here's how the relative performance looks like for these two years.

Wow, almost 10,000 Real Estate residential transactions took place in our area in June of this year.

So, looking at both charts, the Houston-area market experienced growth both in terms of market appreciation and also sales activity, during this first half. These are the signs of a healthy market!
