New ideas on a new Town Center in West U are going to be presented to the City Council meeting on either October 25 or November 8. The existing center on Edloe and University would have to be taken into consideration. The majority of the existing structures in the retail district do not conform to West U's Commercial Zoning Code and, of course, a new Town Center would be up to code. While ideas include a two to three level shopping center plus parking garage, the plans conform to the existing 35 foot height restriction. This is the same height restriction that residential homes face in West U. Proponents of the plan say that it is the best use for the land and will "help ensure its useful life and economic longevity."
