Much to my dismay, the City of Houston has approved the infamous Ashby hi-rise project after developers have submitted 11 applications over the past 2 years. The building would stand 23 stories high – towering above the old bungalows of neighboring Southampton. To reduce increased traffic on Bissonnet, the city is prohibiting the building’s proposed space for a spa, retail and executive offices. Also, the city is not allowing ingress or egress to the building on Bissonnet. The building developers now comment that moving forward may not be economically sound considering the city’s new restrictions. One has to wonder if the developers are being coy to limit further negative press and outrage from neighboring Southampton residents.
