We have some additional information on the recent home burglaries in Royden Oaks over the past few days.
A home on Wickersham that backs up to the home on Locke Lane that was burglarized, was also burglarized. The homeowners were not at home, but when they returned, they found a back glass broken and jewelry and other items taken. It is very likely they both happened the same time. There was no suspect contact at this residence as there was on Locke Lane.
We also have additional suspect information from the Locke Lane burglary. One of the residents saw a white male, in his thirties, with facial hair, walking down the driveway of the residence and get int o the white Toyota with the female suspect. He was slim and could have possibly been of Hispanic origin. They couldn't be sure, however. These suspects are a close match to those in the Memorial Villages area that also used the "water leak" ploy. If they follow the same pattern, they hit a few houses in an area and them move on.
In the areas surrounding Royden Oaks, there have been numerous burglaries. An estimate given by other agencies indicate the following:
River Oaks- 2 recent burglaries and several vehicle burglaries.
Oak Estates- 5 or 6 recent burglaries and 3 vehicle burglaries.
Lynn Park- 5 vehicle burglaries
Westlane - 6 recent burglaries and several vehicle burglaries
Los Polmos- 15 burglaries and vehicle burglaries. Breakdown unknown.
Royden Oaks- 3 recent burglaries and 1 vehicle burglary.
These are very unofficial numbers, but felt to be fairly accurate. It ap pears that this is not just one group, but more than one, w! ith diff erent methods and member makeup. The suspects sighted in River Oaks and Westlane were described as, at least three black males. Their method has been described as knock and then enter if there is no answer. Their vehicles were said to be a white Cadillac Escalade and a silver Dodge Charger or Challenger. However, these people don't use the same vehicles very often, so they could be in anything.
Prevention is difficult, but can be effective. Alarms that are activated and monitored are the best for response, and will shorten the time someone is in the house. Locks and strong doors and windows make their job more difficult, and these people are basically lazy, so they help. The best deterrent is still being alert and observant. Call us no matter how insignificant it seems.
