Be aware of major road closures in the River Oaks, Highland Village and Afton Oaks areas so that you can change your driving routes in August and September. The City of Houston mailed notices about flood control construction starting August 15. The city will  modify the drainage ditch that runs along the railroad track just east of Mid Lane in attempt to reducing flooding in the Galleria area. This will cause a complete road closure of San Felipe at the railroad track for 2 weeks starting August 15. After this is complete and San Felipe is re-opened, Westheimer at the railroad track will be closed for 2 weeks. And subsequently, when Westheimer is complete, W Alabama at the railroad track will is close for 2 weeks. Let's just hope that construction stays on schedule so there are no delays in reopening these important streets!

You think, how can we possibly have more new restaurants on the way!?  
But look out for many new tasty treats!
* Katsuya by Stark will open in West Ave in January. A sushi venue with panache!
*Ouisie's is opening another location called The Bird and The Bear. This new fun spot will be more casual and in September will take over Tony Mandola's temporary location on Westheimer, just west of Kirby.
*Catalan on Washington Ave will re-open this Fall under with a new name and a new chef making Italian food that will sure to delight!
*West U's favorite breakfast haunt, Buffalo Grille, is back! It's been open for a couple of months now - in the Weslayan Plaza around the corner from Randalls.
*West U also lost their favorite Mexican eatery, Molina's, but it will re-open soon on Bellaire at Edloe.

CRIME ALERT - ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
The following has been reported from the neighboring River Oaks Patrol:

An attempt was made to burglarize a residence in the 3600 block of Overbrook Lane on July 4th at approximately 10:00pm. The suspect(s) attempted to gain entry into the residence by breaking a window on an exterior door. During the attempt, the alarm was activated and the suspect(s) fled without gaining entry. At the time of this attempt, the resident was not at home. No suspect or vehicle information is currently available.

There is evidence of a recent increase in this type of activity in the surrounding River Oaks areas. To date, there have been a total of thirteen burglaries since June 15th - three of which were to businesses, from Kirby Drive westward to the Loop. The time frames are similar, frequently during the evening hours.  Very little accurate suspect information is available.

 APOA  homeowners are strongly encouraged to make certain all doors are secured and alarm systems are operating properly. As always, please report any suspicious activity especially during evening hours immediately to HPD at 713 884 3131 or to our Constable Pct 1 Patrol at  713 755 7628. Information such as physical descriptions and vehicle information including color and license plate numbers are very helpful. In an emergency dial 911.

It was reported yesterday that 2 men entered a home on Ella Lee (West) by showing ComID badges on the pretence that is was imperative that they check out the modem (CATV equipment) at that particular address......They  were 'not' employees and the IDs were apparently either false or stolen. Do not allow any unsolicited service people into your home unless you have requested an appointment.
