According to the Texas Transportation Institute’s recent traffic congestion study, Houstonians were held up for a total of 123.9 million hours in 2007. This ranks us ninth in the U.S. for lost time because of travel delays. Yikes! Houston drivers paid an additional $2.5 billion in fuel because of the delays. The bright side is that we don’t live in the DFW Metroplex, which was fifth in the nation with 140.7 million lost hours and $2.8 billion more in fuel costs.
When you are buying a new home, it pays to check out the traffic history of your routes to/from work, school, play, worship, etc. BEFORE you buy.
I advise my clients to check out the cool traffic web site at www.HoustonTranstar.org . You can get real-time traffic information before you get on the freeway and get stuck, and you can also check out historical routes to see how long it might take to get from Point A to Point B.
