I'm presenting a series of thoughts and observations from years of experience on how to be the best buyer you can be. This is especially written for my clients, but home shoppers in general should benefit. The better prepared a buyer is, the more smoothly the process goes for everyone, and the more we all enjoy it. Keep referring back to this blog, as I will add more tips regularly.
First, this may seem obvious, but you must partner with a qualified Realtor. Ask for a referral from someone you trust, then interview that agent to make sure you feel comfortable. Your agent should be competent and caring. If you don't feel like your agent both listens AND hears what you want and need, keep shopping. Your agent should have experience and a proven track record. Lots of really nice people, and maybe even some of your relatives or neighbors, have real estate licenses, but it doesn't necessarily make them the best-suited to represent you in the largest purchase you're likely ever going to make. The average Realtor in the US subsists below the poverty level. I don't really want to entrust my future with someone who is average. Do you?
A Buyer's Agent works tirelessly with you to help you find the right property and to negotiate the terms and conditions of your home purchase. Make sure your agent has the credentials and experience, along with an attitude of success. Stay tuned, there's more to come...
