An FBI agent was among those charged in a $16.5 million South Florida mortgage scam.
Robert DePriest, a coordinator of a hazardous materials team, is accused of supplying "false and fraudulent statements'' on a uniform residential loan application to secure a mortgage for a $545,000 home in Plantation, Fla., in 2005.
Others indicted in the scheme include police officers, mortgage brokers, and attorneys.
FBI officials say DePriest will keep his job and continue working pending the outcome of the case, an unusual decision. Usually, an FBI agent accused of a crime is placed on administrative leave without pay.
