It was a first for me as a Realtor to be talking Real Estate while visiting my new grand daughter in the hospital. During the conversation with one of the staff, I was reminded that not everyone understands how to buy a home and the role a Realtor plays.
THE MYTHS
"I have to go through the agent who's name is on the sign"
While you certainly can call the agent on the sign and have them show you the listing (I know I'm happy to do it), you do not need to follow this pattern. Acting as a Realtor for a buyer, I can not only coordinate showings and provide information about the home you saw the sign at, I can also show you homes you may not be aware of to give you a perspective of what is out there.
"listing agents will resent an offer from a buyer's agent"
The reality in real estate is most offers come from buyer's agents. The goal of a listing agent is to sell the home for their client - whether they sell it themselves or another agent brings a client - the goal is the same, sell the home...no hard feelings.
"it's going to cost me to have a Realtor represent me"
As hard as it is to believe, it is FREE to you to have a Realtor represent you in the purchase of a home. Our commissions are paid by the seller. This applies to buying a new home as well - if the seller has a Realtor representing them it makes sense to have someone look out for your interests as well.
What have you "heard" about Real Estate that you wonder if it's true? Just ask
