Houston's single family home sales have shown double digit increases over 2008 since September. Home sales in December were strong at 4,456. This is 95 fewer than sold in December 2008. The 2008 number was exceptionally high due to closings delayed since September after Hurricane Ike. Although December sales were slightly lower than 2008, the second half of 2009 experienced a 17% increase over the first half. Expect the double digit increases to return in January. Sales in January 2009 were very low at 2,856. Watch for my detailed evaluation of 2009 later this month.
Shown below is a graph I maintain showing single family sales results since January, 2000.
