First-time home buyers have a little over 11 weeks to take advantage of the $8,000 federal tax credit. The $8,000 credit is available for buyers who have not owned a home as a primary residence in the past three years.
With the credit set to expire on Nov 30, buyers wishing to participate in this program have less than 12 weeks to find a REALTOR, apply for and get pre-approved for a mortgage, locate a home, submit an offer, negotiate and agree on terms, open title, complete inspections, have the property appraised and surveyed, have the title researched and a commitment issued by the title company, submit additional documentation to the lender, receive final approval from the lender and close, all by November 30, 2009.
