Today, I had the opportunity to help someone that was 7 payments behind on their mortgage and had very little options.  Unfortunately, this is happening more and more in our economy.  There are options available, that most people are not aware of.  If you find yourself in this situation, where you aren’t able to pay your mortgage due to a hardship, i.e. job loss, divorce, death etc..  There are alternatives.  First, call your lender and let them know what is going on.  Lenders do not want to foreclose on you if they know that you are working to catch up.  It is very expensive for the lender to foreclose.  There are less expensive alternatives for them that they are willing to entertain if asked. The problem will not go away on its own.  You have an opportunity to modify your loan to allow you to catch up, sell your home as a short sale, as well as other options.  Second, talk to a Realtor that has education and experience in dealing with short sales or loan modifications.
