New requirements for contractors dealing with lead paint
Since 2008, tenants and homeowners who live in properties built before 1978 must receive the EPA's "Renovate Right" pamphlet before any renovations of an interior project of six square feet or more of painted surfaces or of an exterior of more than 20 square feet of painted surfaces. Beginning this month, federal law also requires that contractors performing renovation or repair projects on properties built before 1978 be certified and follow specific work practices.
The EPA's Web site contains information about this EPA rule broken down for property owners, tenants, property managers, REALTORS®, and contractors.
