Katy ISD Projected to Receive “Exemplary” Rating
for the 2009-2010 Academic Year

(May 25, 2010) – Preliminary 2010 TAKS results show that Katy ISD will, at minimum, retain its “Recognized” accountability rating and may actually receive an “Exemplary” rating from the Texas Education Agency.  This will be the first time in recent history that the district as a whole would be rated “Exemplary,” and the second time since at least 2004 that all Katy ISD high schools receive a rating of “Recognized” or higher as they achieved these ratings for the first time last year.  Official TEA Accountability Ratings will be released later this summer.

“The stakes continue to rise and the challenges will be even greater for the upcoming academic year and accountability season,” says Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey.  “We must connect with every student in a quality way, and I’m confident that our instructional focus will help us do so.”

During the 2008-2009 academic year, 90 percent of Katy ISD campuses achieved a rating of "Recognized" or higher while this year, 100 percent of our campuses are projected to be rated "Recognized" or higher.  This will be the first time that all elementary and junior high schools will be rated “Recognized” or higher.

Current data shows projected campus ratings as follows:

• 52 percent (26 campuses) earning a projected rating of Exemplary
• 48 percent (24 campuses) earning a projected rating of Recognized
• zero percent earning a projected rating of Acceptable
• zero percent earning a projected rating of Unacceptable
