Staging With Fragrance
Staging is an attempt to influence the senses. One of the most important senses is often overlooked – smell is a powerful influencer. Scent affects the choice of a significant other as well as the place we choose to call home.
There are scents that invite conversation, especially important in the den/living room; pine, thyme, and sweet marjoram are recommended for these rooms.
Cinnamon and vanilla promote warmth and creates a pleasant atmosphere – great for the heart of the home, the kitchen. Notice how the smell of fresh cookies produces a happy mood. Often Realtors will bake cookies prior to an open house to give the home a feeling of warmth and good times.
Lavender is a relaxing scent that is perfect for the bedroom. Additionally chamomile and sandalwood are soothing and are known to induce sleep.
There are many ways of filling your home with fragrance such as scented candles, essential oils, flameless candles (the ‘flame’ is produced by batteries and the heat radiates from the scented wax), and potpourri made from dried petals of flowers. Whatever method you choose, or a combination of methods, you’re sure to create a pleasant ambience.
