“Donations Needed!” How often have we heard that since Harvey came to town? Now weeks later we still have people in need and thankfully, places providing services. One such place is the Harvey Relief Hub at 2500 Summer Street. Click2Houston has this story with detail if you'd like to know some history. We are open 7:30am to 6:00pm daily with volunteers working later hours some days.
Along with the outpouring of material support from both individuals and corporations comes a need for a donation of time, if you are able. Each item that comes in, whether it’s a box from the back of an SUV or one from one of the many tractor trailer loads that have come, needs to be sorted to be effectively made available to those in need.
Another task that has been realized as a result of the donations of goods is that there is a tremendous amount of packaging that needs to be managed. Addressing the recycling opportunity and logistics of where to take all the packaging is a task that I have taken on as part of my donation of time (and my trusty 4’x12’ utility trailer).
In addition to “taking out the trash,” I’ve been able to do local deliveries and pickups of donated items. Anyone able and equipped to help in the effort would be a great asset to the volunteers here at the Hub!
If you have time and want to come help sort clothes, flatten cardboard, or donate the use of a truck/trailer for hauling, please let me know or come to 2500 Summer St. If you know of people looking for an opportunity to be of service to the community, please pass on this information. Additionally, if you have the means to donate to defer fuel costs, please let me know.
In this time of recovery from disaster, I’m grateful to be of service to the community that has been and continues to be so beneficial to me in my personal and business life!
Best regards,
Drew
