What the near future holds for Heights Blvd by YenYourRealtor

October 8th, 2017

When we think of our favorite Heights shopping and dining, like Manready Mercantile,Revival Market, and the fine and funky establishments that make up the White Oak hot spot, what is it that makes them so Heightsy? For us, it's a unique character, how they offer a certain  "Je Nous Se Qua" that you won't find just anywhere in Houston...something that feels quaint yet quirky, unfussy yet refined.

Well, two long-awaited mixed-use developments, Heights Mercantile and Heights Central Station, are finally soaring to completion in the Heights, both right along our old stomping grounds, Heights Boulevard. While some fear over-commercialization, we see these mixed-use and adaptive-reuse developments as opportunities to build upon the great Heights model that is the 19th Street Shopping District, a walkable, one-of-a-kind retail and dining destination that ties the neighborhood together. Without further ado, here is our full list (to date) of all of your new favorite neighborhood shops:

HEIGHTS MERCANTILE

Heights Mercantile is already largely completed, with some tenants having already opened their doors and the rest planning to open sometime this month. The low-rise retail project is spread out across 6 buildings between Heights and Yale, and along 7th. Steve Radom and Evan Katz, developers of the complex, said they were very selective in picking its tenants, trying to stay away from chains, instead looking for local businesses, first-to-market shops, and unique concepts that really fit the Heights. "People in Houston know and love the Heights for being true to its independent nature," Radom explained to the Chronicle's Erin Mulvaney last year. Thus, staying true to that independent nature, from the preservation of historic structures, to the thoughtful inclusion of outdoor seating and greenspace, to the careful selection of tenants, was very important to Radom and Katz.
